Project Proposal

I will write an essay on the TV show Teen Mom. Teen Mom is a spin off of the show 16 and Pregnant and follows the lives of girls who got pregnant in high school.

In this essay, I will argue that the TV show Teen Mom in a way encourages pregnancy by giving them a TV show to showcase their lives. This show in a way glorifies teen pregnancy. All the teens on the show are well provided for which for some teens is falsely represented.

I will begin my essay with a statistic about the effect pregnancy shows has on teen pregnancy and also in the introduction I will include my thesis statement (Even though Teen Mom demonstrates the joys as well as hardships of pregnacy it also glorifies teen pregnancy ). I will then give a summary about the show in a paragraph or two, pointing out how many seasons it has aired as well as how many teens have participated. Then I will include a counterargument followed by my conclusion--where I will restate my thesis.

1. Do you think the show Teen Mom glorifies teen pregnancy? Why or why not?
2. What does Teen Mom  say about American culture and those who watch the show?

Reading Response 1

My book is technically two books in one.

I finished the one on the left, and I thought it was great. I already knew what was going on in the season that the book was set in and reading the things that were happening from a side characters point of view was pretty great. The book is basically about Joe, the bartender, and his ease dropping and need to talk gossip with people. The book on the right is going to be about the same except it is told from a nurses point of view, so she is also a side character but she is in the middle of the action. I have just started the second on and am not far enough to say anything about it so I will stick to the first one. There are a lot of funny parts in the book, some of which I highlighted, but they have bad words in them so I don't know if I should include a passage, but I will anyway, I will just slightly edit it. "Quints?! That's five babies in one woman! Now, that's just crazy talk." This one I find funny because five babies is a lot in one person yeah, but Joe seems so distrubed by it, makes me laugh. "I was serving the human form of pure satanic evil." Joe says this about Addison and it is also funny to me because he doesn't even honestly know her, he only knows stories but he decides she is awful just from what he hears. I actually didn't think Addison was that bad but hey I'm not Joe the bartender. I saw a meme that said, "Oh you're obsessed with Grey's Anatomy, who is Bokey?" and I freaked out because I know who that is! So there is a part in the book that mentions her and I highlighted it because I know who she is, which excites me. I'm excited to hear things from the nurses point.

Books and the future

Right before last semester ended I had ordered a couple of books and I was super excited to read them. I started reading the first one, which is like two books in one, and it is Notes Overheard at the Emerald City Bar. To a non-Grey's Anatomy fan the book sounds stupid because you have no idea what the Emerald City Bar is, but to a Grey's Anatomy fan this book probably sounds interesting, and let me tell you it is! I am super enjoying reading all the things that Joe has overheard at the bar, granted I know most of it anyway because I have seen every season, but still super interesting to hear things from the bar tenders point of view.
After high school I am going to MSU, even though I would be super okay with not going to college, I am going to continue that way I can have an awesome life. I want to get my Speech Pathology degree. I most definitely want to get married after that and have kids. I would perfer two girls, mainly because I have their names picked out already. I want to name one Ireland Mercedes and Calliope Elaine. I won't be a stay at home mom, I will have a career, but I will not be an un-involved mom either. I mainly just want to have a family and a successful career and I'll be happy.
